Great piece of advice considering we are constantly being bombarded with so called new marketing techniques…

  • http://howardperks.com Howie Perks

    Great article Jim!

So many network marketers think there is some kind of magic bullet out there to end all of their mlm frustrations. They are missing the one crucial element in their success and that’s looking at themselves in the mirror.

There are many bullets out there and my favorite ones are action, consistency, perseverance, duplication and willingness to step outside of the comfort zone ;)

Thanks for being a great leader and providing great training!

    In Success,
    Howie Perks

  • Jim Chao

Howie, you nailed so many key points in your comment. The fact is, everyone just need to run some small monthly frontline numbers and have a duplication code in place. Then just keep running in their business like there’s no tomorrow.

  • http://www.meetianhannaford.com Ian L. Hannaford

Hi Jim, it is indeed a great and appropriate post. The point is truly made and also needs stickability as so many people get distracted by the latest supa launch millionaire status in 5 days with no work at all blah blah – sure you get them daily!

  • http://workwithjess.com Jessica Perretti

Great insight Jim! More people need to follow your advice, you’re a great leader and I’m happy to be working with you :)

EXCELLENT blog post Jim! It’s a pleasure being on your team and learning more each and everyday. I have no doubt my business is going to grow within the next month.

  • http://www.michaelstead.com Michael Stead

    Hey Jim,

Sometimes the best wisdom is often the most simple. I love what you have presented here and I am completely guilty for falling in this trap many times myself. When I first got started in this industry I really didn’t know who to trust and I was VERY naive when it came to promises of what I could do with someone’s course. I remember when I was literally buying every single course that came out because I thought to myself that the new course would have the answer that I was looking for. Turns out that my complete lack of focus was my biggest enemy and I wasted FAR more money than I ever had to.

The biggest thing that turned this all around for me was simply just focusing on one marketing method as you said and DO NOTHING else until you get steady and consistent lead flow from it. Until you reach this point, then you shouldn’t move on.

Great post my friend! Keep up the great work ;)

    See you at the top,
    Michael Stead

WOW, Jim! Thanks for bringing it back to the BASICS and keeping it simple. So many of us need that…leave the distractions alone and focus! :)

  • http://whoispaulbrady.com Paul Brady

Jim, great info! I have a hard time just keeping up with emails from marketers I follow. Product launches can be distracting, and I admit I get caught up in the hype sometimes. I’m going to focus a bit more going forward thanks to your advice.

  • http://maximumantiaging.com Brian Mans

You are right on the money Jim. It’s much better to be a master of one, than a jack of all trades. There are many online tactics that can easily drive you to success. Examples would be article marketing, video marketing, social media marketing, ppc, etc. If you try jumping into all of them at once, you’ll be screwed! Most people are program hoppers. They try something for a week, then they move on to the next thing. This madness guarantees you a spot at the bottom of the food chain.

I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. — Michael Jordan

You got it spot on buddy…

This is what I have done exactly in last 2.5 years to build a team of 60,000+ reps…

One more tip…..Time schedule wise….People can utilize their first one week for personal recruitments and 3 other weeks to work with their frontlines with a target of making them independent..

Then next month more new frontlines and so on..

    Kind of works for me…

    Cheers

Dear Jim, Thanks for your insights. You are always on point. Your advice can be taken straight to the Bank. The difference is always made by Duplication.

  • http://AskRobinWilliams.com Robin

Jim, I was just thinking about this today as I looking in my inbox. I think that part of the problem is that when you subscribe to a list for a specific piece of information, you get flooded with offers for everything that you may not have had an interest in. Focus is truly the KEY!

    Thanks Jim!

Thanks Jim, Great Article. I needed to read it!

  • Jim Chao

thanks for the great feedbacks everyone. The key to remember is sponsoring new reps is truly not that hard. Just getting half good at any traffic techniques will get you results as long as you are consistent. Just be sure to have a bigger vision of plugging your team to a stream line duplicatable system and produce leaders. That’s where the money is at.

Great Post Jim, I got so much value from this one article it is ridiculous… That is exactly the formula for success.. Keep giving back so much value.. The community loves it.
    See you in Vegas!!!!

  • Paul Merriwether

Thanks Jim, for getting out there, the message I was thinking about yesterday!

With all the $2,000+ product launch’s within the last 90 days, it’s overwhelming.

But…. then again, developing those 20 “qualified” daily leads you mentioned, takes some skill. That’s 600 leads per month. With only a closing ratio of 1% that equates to 6 new reps/mth.

At only 1 new rep/mth and duplicated over 13 months yields a team of 4,000+ reps. That’s
certainly enough to propel anyone into the MLM hall of fame.

    Food for thought.

    Thanks Paul

  • Carol Perdue

    Hey Jim!
Loved the article. Actually, I think it IS the Best One you’ve written todate! Thanks for the reminder. And you know, I am the kind of person you’re talking about. I’ve had to “unsubscribe” so much here lately, my darn emails are over flooded with the “next best thing”. It is mind boggling if you let it. It’s time for me to regroup, re-focus and Implement what I’ve learned in the last two years. I tried your “funnel” and honestly, it was to “techie” for me. So I’ve tried another and yet have to make anything with it cause I am still acting on the knowledge and trying to piece it all together! LOL However, I will NOT give up! LOL Thanks again for a good and honest article!
    Your Loyal Follower!

    Excellent food for thought Paul!

  • http://www.WhoIsBart.com Bart

    Hey Jim,

Great article! The challenge I see today is the whole concept of attraction marketing and the so called “MLM Morons” who actually think that if they pretend to be “experts” and posts lots of articles and all that stuff online they will “attract” loads of leads… Nothing could be more further from the truth. It is a bit like the concept “fake it till you make it”. I say to that don’t fake it, just make it and be real for a change! I like your analogy on triathlon so to them I can only say: train for your triathlon, at least do one in your life and share your result. In MLM language that might be: follow your upline and/or system for duplication training, prospect and sponsor people, share it with potential candidates how you did it…Network Marketing online isn’t that more different than offline, it’s about being authentic and being real! Start with this and people will feel “attracted” to you. You see “everybody” is a “MLM guru” nowadays – sheesh! Might be no “prospects” left now LOL! But hey, I personally sponsored a new rep this week and already we worked three levels deep together and yes we do use skype and the advantages of the internet it’s just that the working processes for sponsoring are the same as working offline but we can go faster and save more time! And you know why this lady joined our team? Simply because she says I speak the truth! And two of her new teammembers also stated this to me: Bart, you simply speak the truth and are really teaching us skills we need to advance in this business.

MLM is the most simple business model that will ever exist! Why? Well because it has to be duplicatable! Everyone should be able to do it. The only problem is that there are so many “Frank Sinatras” out there who keep doing things their way…but that is yet again another story my friend :-)

    Keep rocking,
    Bart

Great back to basics, focus on one thing, build rapport and the reality of mlm post Jim.

  • http://rachaelmacgregor.com Rachael

Awesome Jim, it’s so hard to stay focused when everyone is talking about the latest “new” thing!

  • Jim Chao

@ Rachael, remember all the “new thing” is mostly traffic driving strategy. If you want to make big money in MLM, all you need to really do is have the ability to sponsor 5 reps a month. It doesn’t take much to sponsor 5 reps a month. Duplication is the more important factor. So all the “new things” are really irrelevant in making money in MLM. I always only buy specific courses on what I’m already doing. I ll continue to buy personal development, prospecting courses. As well as direct response courses. Everything else I ll buy it if I have time to go thru. If I’m busy, I just ignore them. Because they are not that important.

  • http://www.1affiliatebestreview.com/ Anita

I like the idea of choosing one traffic source, it’s very easy to get carried away trying to do everything at once.

  • http://www.UltimateLeverage4U.com Deb Maute

Jim, right on target. I’ve been guilty of the distractions… focus is the key. It is critical everyone realize there is no magic to this… I say put your CAP on (Consistent Action Persistently).

    Hey Jim,

Love this post. It can be easy to get stuck in a bubble of jumping around learning all the trainings people launch and spending lots of money and time on the next best products. We can easily procrastinate getting started and use information overload as an excuse. It really is a case of KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid. Pick one or 2 strategies and focus.

Hope to meet you at the MLSP event.

    Best wishes,
    Chris

p.s. thanks for all the value you bring to the MLSP community.

  • http://markmeir.com Mark Meir

That’s exactly it, we are constantly bombarded with stuff that promises to be better than we already have. It’s a never ending game until you just unsubscribe from it all and simply focus.

  • http://visionarynetworkmarketing.com/ Paul Reimers

    Excellent article Jim,

With all of the options of how to do this business out there, it is easy to complicate things. I loved your analogy of the triathalon. It is important to work the numbers and take consistent action as you are saying and keep in mind that the no’s are a necessary way to get to the yes’s. I like to think of it as collecting yes’s and no’s.

  • http://gabrieljohansson.com Gabriel Johansson

    Hey Jim,

I really agree with you here, and its very easy to get distracted with the product launch of the week. Assuming we are all here to build a network marketing business, that should be our main focus, not anything else!

    Thanks,

    Great article Jim,

I have been following you for about a year now and this is one of the most “REAL” articles I have read in a long time. Its straight to the point and is so true.

Recruiting is what “network marketing” is all about. Its harnessing the power of “leveraged income”. I think this article really brings us all back down to earth like you said.

Good job and keep em’ coming!

  • http://georgetiganus.com George Tiganus

Yeah, there’s definitely too many “unique” training courses out there. I bought some of them myself until I started to realize the whole backlinking and lead getting mechanism.
Most of them are probably just duplicates but there’s no way you can learn without spending some money at one point or another.

The idea is to buy some useful oes and then stop and apply what you learned.

    You are the best, Jim!

    George

I agree I have been on so many webinars so much so that I don’t prospect as I should. I have found that if you spend 3 hours to traffic generating and 90 minutes to calls etc it is a good time management tactic. What are you 3 favorite traffic sources?

  • http://scottzlateff.com Scott Zlateff

Well put my friend!!! I have been online for a short period of time and I’ve learned a lot from all the different courses and am very greatful for the knowledge I’ve gained. However I have been seeing a lot of different products come my way and I’ve had to shut myself off from them so I can focus on what counts! – Scott Zlateff

  • http://www.EfficientArticleMarketing.com Anne

I think you say something crucial here: “Pick 1 traffic source until you get to at least 20 leads a day”. This was my mistake when I started in the network marketing industry, I picked too many traffic sources. The problem is that most so called gurus do not tell you this.
And then, if it’s a free traffic source, it’s even better.
