What Does It Take To Succeed In Network Marketing? The Answer Is Inside…

It saddens me to see so many continues to struggle in the network marketing industry when this industry is rather simple.
Regardless if you are still building your business through the traditional offline approach or you are integrating internet marketing in your business, the core attributes to succeed remains the same.
These main attributes that will change your business forever:
- Focus
- Work towards your strength
I will further explain them in a bit. First, I’d like to share my story.
I was first introduced to the MLM industry when I was 18.
Sucked in by hype and the promise to make millions, I was willing to do everything and anything it takes.
Believe me when I say I’ve done everything!
I did presentations as late as 2:00 am in the morning. I was practically banned from all local shopping malls for soliciting phone numbers. I was even mugged by the starbucks baristas because I took up all their seats doing meetings and not able to afford to buy drinks
Recruiting just seemed impossible to me after I exhausted my warm market. I continued to struggle for 3 years until I found a solution.
Let’s evaluate what I did during my first 3 years in the network marketing industry.
- I was hard working
- I was focused
- I was consistent
- I was coachable
But in the end, all I received was nothing but laughters from my friends and family with an empty wallet.
You see, I was never a natural when it comes to prospecting and cold calling. But that’s what I did majority of the 3 years I was involved in the industry.
Pareto’s 80/20 law states that we should focus 80% of our energy doing the things that we are good at and 20% to improve our lacks.
If you look around in the industry, majority that are struggling are not productive because they are spending very little time in doing what they are good at.
MLM is an industry where you only get paid by productions after all.
The main reason I failed at MLM early on is because I had a big problem prospecting enough people on a daily basis. Starting conversations with people was always a weakness of mine even until this day.
Once I studied a little about building a network on the internet and implement just some strategies, I was able to have a consistent stream of prospects coming to me on a daily basis.
Prospecting problem – SOLVED!
And the rest like they say… it’s history.
I went from 3 years of tears to having my first 5 figure month within 3 months online. What a difference it made when I focused on my strength instead of my lack!

Hi Jim
Your article is so true. A lot of us have been in a situation like that at one time or other. That 5 figure month…oh what a feeling.
WoW Jim! This is very insightful into WHO YOU ARE and WHAT YOUR experiences are. I am proud to be associated with you and learning from you everyday. If at all possible, if you could always ReTweet my stuff that would be greatly appreciated.
Now back to this excellent post of yours. When we challenge our subconscious to quiet the mind and focus on what we KNOW we are good at, the end game is —————-> You ready…more POSITIVE vibes about attempting things we’ve never done before, even when stressful. WE end up feeling better about our actions even if the $$$ results are not so hot. To explain this further…Let’s say I’m new to building a business and I’m using old-school network marketing techniques to prospect and find leads. I have my good days and my bad days. All the while the end game is: HOW much money am I making? OR is it? Jumping forward to a person like you who can honestly say he has paid his dues in network marketing and other businesses your subconscious mind is still the same as before except now you have some basis to gauge what YOU are good at now. I am like you, I enjoy the energy of people and their excitement. Unfortunately, many people buy into the hype like you did when you were 18 years old. I started for similar reasons when I was 22 years old and found that over time when I could deny my impulse to make emotional decisions about something that my results in the end were far better, both professionally in relationships and financially.
Great post Jim…you RoCk!
